Easy Gamer Costumes To Make From Scratch

Halloween is many gamers' favorite celebration because it’s acceptable to dress in cosplay for the whole month of October. Embrace the super nerd in you and dress like you're from a video game. With this list of costumes, we make it easy to DIY this Halloween.

1. Mr. & Mrs. Pac-Man

Thanks to the retro Pac-Man’s simple shape, you can craft this costume faster than a ghost will catch up to you. All you need is some paint, cardboard, and a partner to nerd out with. Mrs. Pac-Man gets a little extra pizazz with lipstick and a bow.

2. Nintendo Gameboy

If you can’t pick your favorite character, you go as a gaming device. You can easily craft this one out of cardboard and paint too. Use a sheer plastic sheet for the screen if you’re feeling fancy.

3. Zelda

Zelda–– our beloved princess goddess! A classic character calls for a classic gamer girl to embrace this costume. You’ll easily find a white dress and gloves from a thrift store or your grandmother’s closet. For the accessories, make your own from fabric and costume jewelry, or try your luck at a Halloween store.

4. Donkey Kong

An old fur coat is a good start. Find gorilla ears and a tail from a costume store or sew them yourself from furry material. Grab yourself a red tie and some nipple tape and you’re the king of the jungle!

5. Tron Bonne

She’s a pirate chick with a crush on Mega Man. With some brown leggings, a pink mini dress, and a lot of hairspray, you’ll look like this feisty mademoiselle in no time.

6. Kirby

A Kirby costume is adorable and easy to make. If you don’t want to go completely round, a pink t-shirt dress will do the trick. Stick on some eyes, a mouth, and stars with a fabric adhesive and make yourself a wand. Dye your hair pink for the occasion or buy a wig.

7. Toad

Toad is everyones favorite mushroom. You can whip this costume up with a vest and pants you can find at a secondhand clothing store. Your toadstool hat is where you need to get a bit crafty. We recommend a light material so you don’t have a lot of weight on your noggin.

8. Vanessa (King Of Fighters)

Vanessa is a striker in The King of Fighters and she is strikingly hot. You can easily pull this costume together with a few thrifted pieces and a red wig. You need brown trousers, white blouse, red tie, and some sexy suspenders.

9. Terry Bogard

This guy is the protagonist of the Fatal Fury series and he’s not short of muscles. Whether your biceps are bulging or not, you can easily piece this outfit together to get his look. The “Fatal Fury” trucker hat may be the only piece that needs a personal touch.

10. Sonic The Hedgehog

Sonic is a hedgehog to be reckoned with! You can pull of this character if you dress in blue from head to toe and spike your hair. Throw on a pair of red sneakers, white gloves, and make ears out of a headband.

11. Censored Sims

This cheeky costume is ridiculously simple and will get all the laughs. The game of Sims doesn’t allow animated nudity so characters are censored when they’re naked. Paint neutral colored squares onto a rectangle that covers you from shoulders to knees. Stick a green diamond to a headband to confirm you’re a Sim.

12. Princess Peach

If you’ve got the long blond locks all you need is your princess attire. A gold crown, white gloves, and a blush pink gown. Adorn a blue gem to your chest and white tulle on your waist and beat all the boys in a car race.

13. Dr. Light (Mega Man)

You might need a Mega Man and Proto Man at your side to enhance this costume, but if you’re a true fan you’ll get it. Basically, if you put on a Santa beard, white wig, and a lab coat with a blue tie, you’ve become Dr. Light.

It’s all in the details–– This costume is very creative without much hassle. Be the cloud from Super Mario with the “final lap” sign! Your props include goggles, fishing rod, microphone headpiece, and a yellow t-shirt.

This costume will hit everyone’s nostalgic button. Transform yourself into a tamagotchi console. Make one out of felt and fabric, or try the old cardboard and paint trick. You don’t have to be an artist–– the graphics are simple enough to draw on your pretend screen.

16. Detective Pikachu

Don’t just be Pikachu, be Detective Pika Pika! Throw a classic detective outfit over your yellow clothes and craft yourself some Pikachu ears. Paint those round red cheeks on your face and you’ll be the cutest Pokemon around.

17. Midas (Fortnite)

Midas dresses in pretty standard formal wear you might already have in your closet. The gold gloves and guns may be your only investment. Find an artistic friend to give you a sleeve of tattoos if you’re not already inked.

This costume will be quick and easy because Lara wears minimal clothes! You need a solid pair of boots and a couple of holsters for your guns. One long braid in your hair is a simple enough updo.
