The Best & Worst Of Star Wars
As one of the biggest fandoms in the universe, it makes sense that fans can be pretty split about different aspects of Star Wars. But if there's one thing most can agree on, it's their favorite and least favorite characters. Here are the 10 most hated Star Wars characters and the 10 most loved. Do you agree?
1. Jar Jar Binks
"Meesa called Jar Jar Binks"! This one line is enough to make anyone facepalm. Arguably the most hated Star Wars character to ever be created, this outcasted Gungan might have a heart of loyalty, but there's not much else going on up there. He doesn't really add much to the universe aside from unwanted silliness.
2. Jabba The Hutt
One look at Jabba The Hutt is all you need to be completely creeped out. This giant, slug-looking crime lord doesn't have one good thing about him. He's greedy, cruel, and doesn't wink an eye at violence. This character is the perfect example of power belonging to someone who shouldn't have it.
3. Watto
We're pretty sure there's nothing positive we can say about Watto. Completely owning Anakin and his mother, this greedy, money-obsessed, bug-looking creature simply had nothing going for him. And to be fair, we're pretty sure he's not meant to be liked.
4. Kylo Ren
It's safe to say Kylo Ren became a character that fell short of expectations. While many people expected (and even hoped) for him to became the next Darth Vader, his story became overly complicated and confusing. At the end of the day, his actions were all based off of his insecurities, and that wasn't something people wanted.
5. Pong Krell
If you ask any Star Wars' fan what one of their most hated characters is, many seem to absolutely despise Pong Krell. He's definitely up there with Jar Jar Binks! Most dislike him for his cruel and uncaring disposition, and when that's combined with how he mistreats clones, it's just a recipe for hatred.
6. Captain Phasma
Underutilized, many were disappointed with the outcome of Captain Phasma. Although she was set up to be a really cool villain, she simply didn't have much development. You're telling us she gets her own personalized armor but doesn't show us anything of it? Sadly, "lame" seems to be the word many use to describe her fate.
7. Rey
To cut right to the chase, Rey is a pretty disliked Star Wars character because she was able to grasp the Force with so much ease. While it does come naturally to her, it's a little too easy.
Her abilities developed far too quickly, making her good at everything for no reason. Star Wars fans appreciate diamonds in the rough, not diamonds that become even brighter.
8. Vice-Admiral Holdo
As far as Commanders go, Vice-Admiral Holdo definitely didn't win any points with the Star Wars community. No one really understood her logic or how she was managing things. She withheld important information, was far too stubborn, and was simply a bad leader. She's like the bad boss you'd hate to deal with in real life.
9. Ahsoka
If there's one character no one can agree on, it's probably Ahsoka. One minute she's hated, the next she's loved, then she's hated once more. Some people say she makes too many appearances where she's not needed while others voice that her inconsistent portrayals are creating annoyances for fans. What's your take on the character?
10. Salacious B. Crumb
If there's one word that seems to describe Salacious B. Crumb best, it's "annoying". That's what fans are saying anyway! There's not much about him other than the fact that he was incredibly loyal and dedicated to Jabba the Hutt. And that alone doesn't speak very well to his character.
1. Yoda
The Jedi Master everyone loves, Yoda is truly one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars universe.
From his quirky turn of phrases to his wise lessons and cool lightsaber skills, this small but powerful being plays such an important role. It's safe to say he's universally recognized too.
2. Han Solo
If cool and confident could play a character, it'd probably be Han Solo. Captain of the Millennium Falcon (the coolest ship in the whole galaxy), this character is everyone's favorite despite being a smuggler and rascal. He wins people over with his delightful charm, both on screen and in real life, and played a pivotal role in freeing the galaxy.
3. Anakin Skywalker
Yes, Anakin Skywalker may have been misled to the Dark Side, but that doesn't mean fans don't love the character. A once kind and brave hero, he was corrupted by evil temptations that led him down a dark and lonely path. Fans appreciate this character for his charisma and boldness, but as far as fictional stories go, they also love seeing his struggles and flaws.
4. Luke Skywalker
People often say goody two-shoes characters are no fun to watch, but Luke Skywalker is an exception. As the main hero and protagonist to the Star Wars universe, he's the light to all the darkness. If there's any good in this vast galaxy, Luke Skywalker is it.
Fans adore him for the positive message and goodness that he embodies.
5. Obi-Wan Kenobi
A well-rounded character that's a talented Jedi, kind mentor, yet flawed human being, Obi-Wan Kenobi continues to be a fan favorite after all these years. It's almost unexplainable why so many fans adore him. He's just a great character that deserves to be loved.
6. Princess Leia
We love seeing strong female characters! Princess Leia is someone who never backs down from a fight; she showcases her bravery and willingness to fight time and time again. Fans can all agree she's an iconic character, but what they also appreciate from her is how she helps to further other characters' development too.
7. Chewbacca
We know all you fans would pick Chewbacca if you had to choose one sidekick to go with you on your adventures. Nicknamed "Chewie" to people close to him, this character is incredibly lovable given his furry appearance, but what fans love most about him is how loyal and skilled he can be. He's not just a character used as comic relief for Han Solo - he's a true partner and friend who works right alongside him.
8. R2-D2
R2-D2 might not be able to speak with words, but he's able to convey enough personality through his lovable robot sounds.
Incredibly helpful in moments of need, this droid is definitely someone you'd want with you during difficult times. It's weird calling a robot brave and sincere, but this one really is! No one can debate the significance R2-D2 had in saving the universe.
9. Grogu
While Grogu may be nicknamed "Baby Yoda," these two characters are not the same (though they are the same species clearly)! Don't underestimate his size - though he might appear tiny, his skill with the force is able to get him out of tight spots time and time again. Fans loved seeing this character in action, and found his adorable personality to be very endearing.
10. Darth Vader
There wouldn't be a Star Wars franchise and universe if Darth Vader wasn't there! For this reason alone, fans love him. There's something awfully menacing and terrifying about him, from how he looks to the way he acts. There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Darth Vader is simply one of the greatest villains of all time.
