The Toughest Pixelated Characters to Get
If you've ever played Tamagotchi, you know that there are a variety of characters to get—many of which seem to depend on pure chance and luck. This made it especially frustrating as kids, to the point where we'd come up with oddly specific instructions like "provide perfect care but zero discipline" or "completely neglect your Tamagotchi for a few hours," just to get the characters we wanted. From Mametchi to Bill, here are the 20 hardest Tamagotchi characters you had to put in serious work to obtain.
1. Mametchi
Despite being the main Tamagotchi character, Mametchi is a challenge to get. You could only obtain him through perfect care and discipline—a feat that's practically impossible for busy kids and adults. Plus, on certain versions, he could only sprout from specific generations and particular characters.
2. Young Mametchi
Not only is adult Mametchi hard to get, but Young Mametchi proves quite the challenge, too. Like the full-grown version, Young Mametchi requires little to no care mistakes. This means you can't miss care calls, such as forgetting to feed your Tamagotchi or turning off the light when they go to bed.
3. Memetchi
Don't be confused, Mametchi and Memetchi are two different characters. Memetchi is characterized by her sparkly eyes and springy curl. On certain Tamagotchi versions, there are specific characters you have to evolve into, such as turning into Tamatchi or Mizutamatchi, then to Obotchi, before (with good care) getting Memetchi.
4. Violetchi
Violetchi is a purple character with long lashes and a flower on each side of her head. In Tamagotchi Version 3 (V3), you'd want to first get your Tamagotchi to evolve into Mizutamatchi, then to Obotchi or Ichigotchi. Since Violetchi is in the same tier as Mametchi, sometimes it's pure luck even with perfect care. Violetchi is also much more challenging to obtain on the V5.
5. Mimiyoritchi
Mimiyoritchi looks like a normal girl with pigtails. She is another character that only appears in certain generations, so you won't be able to get her in every time, even when you execute things perfectly. On the Tamagotchi V3, she can be obtained with average care—which might sound easy, but you may also end up with Tarakotchi or Paparatchi.
6. Hanatchi
Hanatchi is a blue worm or seal with a big, round nose. She can be obtained through average or below average care on Tamgotchi V1 through V4, and only on odd generations. Particularly on the V3, she falls in the same tier as Tsunotchi and Hashizoutchi, meaning you may only get her by pure chance.
7. Pochitchi
Pochitchi isn't available on every Tamagotchi version. Appearing as a yellow, floppy-eared dog, he can only be obtained on the Tamagotchi P2, V2, Pac-Man Tamagotchi, Hello Kitty Tamagotchi, and Tamagotchi Smart. Most agree that he's difficult to get because they usually end up with Zuccitchi. There are also other specifics, like evolving into Tonmarutchi or Tongaritchi with 75% discipline.
8. Ginjirotchi
Ginjirotchi made his debut on the original Tamagotchi, so that in itself makes him rather rare. He was also present on the Tamagotchi V2, among others, though not in subsequent versions. To get him, you must evolve from Tamatchi on the V1, with little to no care mistakes and one discipline mistake. On the V2, you must put in above-average care and be on an odd generation.
9. Ichigotchi
Ichigotchi is a teen Tamagotchi that appears in many versions and variations, though not on the V3. As her Japanese name suggests, she's a strawberry. She can be obtained either on even or odd generations depending on the version, and requires almost perfect care.
10. Hyottokotchi
Hyottokotchi is a special character that can be obtained on the Tamagotchi V4.5 and Ura Jinsei Enjoy Tamagotchi Plus. To get him, you must evolve from Ura Mametchi and accumulate humor points. On the V4.5, you must have over 450 skill points and more than 350 humor points before the Matchmaker visits.
11. Zatchi
Zatchi is another special character, but can only be obtained on the second generation of the original Tamagotchi. He resembles a green alien with large eyes and head and a stick body. To get him, you must evolve from Zuccitchi (and before that, Tongaritchi) with no discipline. After getting Zuccitchi, you must give it perfect care and 100% discipline. At age 10-15, Zuccitchi will turn into Zatchi.
12. Mukimukitchi
Like Hyottokotchi, Mukimukitchi can only be obtained on the Tamagotchi V4.5 and Ura Jinsei Enjoy Tamagotchi Plus. He appears as a muscular Tamagotchi with a beak. You must raise Ura Kuchipatchi beforehand to evolve into Mukimukitchi. On the V4.5, you have to acquire at least 350 spiritual points and 450 total skill points.
13. Oyajitchi
Introduced as a special adult character on the original Tamagotchi, Oyajitchi has since been a well-known and beloved franchise character. As his name suggests, he's an old man. In the Japanese version of the first generation of the original Tamagotchi, Oyajitchi could only be obtained by evolving from Tamatchi (with no discipline) to Maskutchi. Then, with perfect care, Maskutchi evolves into Oyajitchi at around age 10.
14. Tensaitchi
Tensaitchi is a special character on the Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus and Tamagotchi V4. In the latter version, he can be obtained by evolving from Mametchi, then accumulating over 350 intellectual points and a total of 450 skill points before the Matchmaker visits.
15. Makiko
Makiko is another special character that appears on the Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus and Tamagotchi V4, among others. She can be obtained by evolving from Memetchi and collecting over 350 artistic points and a total of 450 skill points before the first matchmaker visit.
16. Dorotchi
Dorotchi looks like a floating ghost and appears on several Tamagotchi versions and variations, such as the Keitai Kaitsuu Tamagotchi Plus, Tamagotchi V2 and V3, and Tamagotchi Music Star. He can be obtained on even generations with average care, and sits in the same tier as Pipotchi and Bill.
17. Bill
Bill looks like your standard American man—in fact, his name takes inspiration from Bill Clinton, even though he originally debuted as Sam in Japan. A special character In the first generation of the original Tamagotchi, he replaces Oyajitchi in the international release. So, just like Oyajitchi, he can be obtained by evolving Tamatchi into Maskutchi with zero discipline, then providing perfect care with no mistakes. Maskutchi will turn into Bill at around age 10.
18. Nonbiritchi
Another secret character on the Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus and Tamagotchi V4, Nonbiritchi looks like a round, green ball with a tangled hair nest. He's known for being lazy. On the V4, you must raise a Kuchipatchi first, then collect at least 350 social points and 450 total skill points before the Matchmaker visits.
19. Nazotchi
As his Japanese name suggests, Nazotchi is an enigma. He typically only appears when delivering mail or newspaper, and may sometimes function as a placeholder character when a connection between devices where one Tamagotchi doesn't exist or appear in the other. Though he can't be obtained through normal means, you can get him by debugging a V1, V2, or V3 Tamagotchi.
20. Burgertchi
Burgertchi is another character you can only obtain through debugging your device. Along with Burgertchi, Capuselutchi (resembles a capsule), Maikutchi (resembles a microphone), Omuratchi (resembles Japanese omelette rice), Tamagotchi (resembles a Tamagotchi device), and Denpatchi (resembles three blocks with faces) are also rare characters that can only be chosen on a debug screen.
